Once Upon a Time...

That's right, this story starts with once upon a time. Why? Because once upon a time in retail, especially music and movie retail, owners used to know that to sell what was in stock, your staff have to be passionate about the product. Everybody I know wanted to work in a music store and I was lucky enough to experience the tail-end of the good times.

This brief little story is about people who are passionate about what they listen to and having the ability to use that gift to enlighten people who shop in stores.

As I said, it's rare to come across an employee nowadays that gives a rats ass about work. We, in the music industry, used to be able to choose the music that we listen to in the store and customers would come in and say "Wow, what is this that you're playing?! It's amazing, I'll take TEN!"

Ok, so that might be a slight exaggeration, but that used to happen all the time, but with more like one copy of something. Now we listen to this drivel that is created by some unknown person with terrible taste at our head offices and forced on us for 40 hours a week. Seriously, like 30-40 songs OVER AND OVER again ALL DAY!

People come into the store and essentially just walk right back out saying stuff like "What is this crap?!" Seriously. Some people obviously DO enjoy it, but those are the people who pirate shit and don't bother to come into the stores for the most part.

So this girl comes in and we start talking about music. We share the same beliefs that music industry has done this to themselves and that hardly any good artists get the recognition that they deserve. We talked about Florence & the Machine, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes and more. It was a great conversation. The girl as it turned out was looking for a CD for her friends birthday. So after talking to her about a bunch of other artists, we ended up having nothing in stock that she was specifically looking for. I went over all of the things we had talked about in my head and I turned to her and said, "Have you heard Marina and the Diamonds?" and the girl smiles and says, "I'll take two if you have them!"

Moments like this are rare nowadays in retail and they make us employees feel amazing when they do happen. I know what I'm talking about and I love sharing my knowledge with people who will appreciate what I have to say. I wish that the music industry could go back to those days, but in lieu of that, I'll just reminisce.

House Music CD Models are HOT

This story is a BIT on the skeezy side, but I'm going to share it anyways... Just because it's one of those parts of retail that we have to go through.

At my very first job in retail, I worked at a music store. We had a lot of crazy regulars that came in, but there was this one guy who was relatively harmless, but so pervy it wasn't funny.

He came in to talk to my manager every now and again, and what he wanted was house music. Not because he LIKED house music, but because he liked the way that the models they used for the CD covers looked. Seriously. And the blonde ones? Well he liked them the best because they looked like his sister. *shivers*

Needless to say, it gave us all the willies and the rest of us tried to avoid him as much as possible.

"My Name is Inigo Montoya. You Killed My Father. Prepare to Die."

On this particular day at my work, I was pretty well stuck on cash. It was a pretty quiet day and I was cleaning up when one of the guys from the music department came up to me and asked me if I knew of any good movies about the holocaust.

Before I could answer, the guy asked to me to look at the guy that he was helping. He was a little ways away from me browsing and I didn't have my glasses on, so I was squinting at the man in question. Once I see him, my co-worker proceeds to ask me if I think that it's Mandy Patinkin (Princess Bride, Criminal Minds, Dead Like Me). Sure enough, it freaking looks just like him.

I'm going to take a mini time out to explain some quirky side facts about how exciting this was... I believe that this occurrence happened on a Monday because I had spent the better part of the weekend telling my boyfriend to shut up. Why? The Princess Bride is one of his favourite movies and we had just started watching Criminal Minds. So throughout us watching the show, my boyfriend just kept repeating the quote over and over again: "My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die."

On top of THAT, we have this thing in our store called 'cash crashers' where a certain movie is on sale for half off if you spend over $20. The DVD that had been on promotion only a DAY before happened to be The Princess Bride.

Anyways, so I have seen a ton of holocaust movies like Black Book, Schindler's List, Good etc. Of course at the time, I couldn't think of anything to tell him though. Overcome with excitement, I waited at cash and sure enough Mandy came to my cash. I was blushing and shaking so badly. He bought his items and when he went to pay, I got even MORE excited when he handed me his credit card and the name on the credit card verified what I already knew - that he was Inigo Montoya... aka Mandy Patinkin.

The Whole Picture

It's just an average morning at the store. People are in purchasing fuel, snacks and their morning cigarettes.
Because it was an average Wednesday, I was only seeing people that had that average kind of look.
It was about 10:30 and a roughly 40 year old, balding white male came in to pay for $18 in fuel.
" ..and a DuMaurier king size."
"I only have regular size."
"That will work, but I dont want the picture to be too gross."

At this point, whenever someone says something similar my brain thinks that they're not strong enough to handle the realities of smoking.

I reach into the drawer and take out one. I place it on the counter.

"Oh! I don't want those ones. Can I have another?"
"No. They all have pictures of a heart on them."
"I will just get the gas then."

Transaction completed.

"On second thought, can I have a Players light?"
I look into the drawer, " it's got a cute baby on it"
"That's ok."

Other transaction completed.

I hope the smokes were good and you have it in your heart not to think of the children!! * insert screechy Mrs. Reverend Lovejoy's voice*

There is a reason that governments put those pictures on the packages...

Want Some Freshly Licked Candy?

My friend Manu and I used to work together. We have all kinds of crazy stories about this and that from then. Anyways, I was chatting with her the other day and she shared this story with me about these customers that she had.

While she was working at cash, a few kids came up to the counter to pay for some stuff. One thing about the store we worked at is that there are little knick knacks to buy everywhere… impulse buy kind of stuff. These kids were wandering around through that stuff and decided to buy some of the candies that were there. Most of the candies are pretty crappy, and people usually buy them for the collectible tins.

As Manu was cashing these kids through (and I’m going to make it a point to add in that they weren’t REALLY kids… more like between 18-21ish), they opened up the candies. One of the guys proceeded to lick all of the candies that were in the package. Once that was done with, he offered the candies to Manu.

Yum. I wish that someone would offer ME freshly licked candies. Urm. Ok, so that sounds really wrong and disgusting, but ya… let’s not take sarcasm out of context people.

Take THAT Justin Bieber!

Christmas, as you can imagine, is the most hectic time for anyone working in retail. I mentioned this before, but if you're short staffed, you can end up with 3-4 employees for every 30-40 people in the store. They all want help, they're all trying to get in and out of the store. And they all expect you to be their top priority. Madness. Absolute complete madness.

This past Christmas, I was the acting supervisor and we had 5 minutes left until we closed the store. I had left one cashier on cash because it was really quiet and had asked the rest of the cashiers to cash off and get ready to start cleaning the store.

We closed the doors and the time to close came. 2 or 3 people were left in the line up and my cashier was working diligently to get through all of them quickly and as best as he could. This one woman had come into the store last minute and picked up a Justin Bieber calendar. She was in the line for thirty seconds before she started yelling. "WHERE ARE ALL OF YOUR CASHIERS?!"

I calmly tried to explain to her that we were closed and we had to start preparing for clean-up. This was not acceptable to her. Another lady in the line up told her to relax but this just made the woman more angry. So the woman took the Justin Bieber calendar that she had in her hands and threw it at the cash area and literally stomped her feet out of the store. I just shook my head and the last woman in line said to me, "Do you seriously have to put up with people like that all day? What a bitch!"

It always makes you feel a little bit better when someone else acknowledges that the person you were dealing with was clearly nutters.

Nomaste, Sweetie

Kids can be freaking adorable, but sometimes, especially if they’re yours… they can be little terrors.

The store I worked out happened to be located in a she-she kind of mall. The place where parents are used to having their kids looked after for them. I’ve seen all sorts of people come into the mall. This woman came in with her husband little girl. The little girl was like your picture perfect child with blonde hair with pretty natural ringlets, and big blue eyes. The father went to browse around the store for a little bit and left his wife to talk to me about a potential exchange.

I was looking up some stuff for the woman, because she didn’t have a receipt, so I must’ve been helping her for 5-10 minutes or so. Like 30 seconds into our conversation, the little girl comes running over to her from her dad “Mommy, mommy, mommy, MOMMY, MOOOMMMMMMMY.” The mom smiles at her kid and is like, “One second sweetie.”

So the kid sits there waiting for her mom to carry on and then starts again, “MOMMY, mommy, mommy MOOOMMMMMMMMMMY!” the whole time she is tugging at her mom’s shirt and jumping up and down. So her mom turns to her again and says “Mommy is trying to talk to this lady, so can you go see daddy?”

The little girl then skips off to find daddy. I can only assume that the father told the girl to go see mommy because another 30 seconds pass before the little girl is back again. However, on her way back to her mom, she has discovered the Hello Kitty PEZ dispensers that we sell. She picks one up and starts waving it at her mom, “MOOOOMMMMMY! LOOK! Look, look look look MOOMMMY! It’s amazing! Can I have it? Please mommy can I have it? I love it! PUHHHHHLEASE?!” the mom turns to her kid again and says calmly “Go ask daddy.”

At this point in time, I am not entirely sure how this woman is keeping calm. I’m pretty sure I would’ve hauled my child out of there (if I had any children to haul outta anywhere), but anyways. I’m almost done talking to the mother, when sure enough, she is back, “MOOOOOOMMMMY! Mommyy, mommy, mommy!” and finally the mom turns to the little girl and gently holds her shoulders and looks her in the eye and says, “Can we just take a deep breath and say nomaste, sweetie?” she then folds her hands together and bows a little bit at her kid, who takes a deep breath before running back to her father again.

The mom looks at me, smiles and says “Kids!” and laughs a little.

Fergie and Those Black Guys

This one is nice and short. I was changing up the music in the listening stations at work. When we’re doing that, we can’t leave them unattended, or else CDs can get stolen. Anyways, so I asked one of my co-workers to come and help me out a little bit. We’re chatting about this and that and working away. This man walks up to us and says to us, “Where is that Fergie and those black guys CD?”

If you’re out of the loop as to who is referring to, he was looking for the Black Eyed Peas. Apparently Fergie makes the Black Eyed Peas, to the point that the rest of them don’t really need to be there… It’s kinda true, but to be fair, the Black Eyed Peas actually had a CD or two out before Fergie joined the band and were a highly respected rap and hip-hop group. Now they’re just a crazy pop/funk band that does terrible Superbowl performances. Anyways, apparently if you’re looking for the Black Eyed Peas in future, just ask the employee where they keep Fergie and Those Black Guys.

50 Birthdays

All right, so sometimes the customer just always has to be right and you can’t say anything to change that.

This woman came into the store and walked right up to me. You get some nice ones that just want help who just walk straight up to the cash, but generally, it’s impatient people who are cranky and want to find what they want NOW. So this woman walks up and looks at me and says “Where can I find 50 Birthdays?”

Now, I have not a clue what freaking movie this woman is looking for. But she is pretty sure that this is what the movie is called and that’s that. After talking to her more, she tells me it’s that movie with Drew Barrymore in it and it clicks that she’s looking for 50 First Dates. So I tell her as much and she insists that I have the title wrong… Which I most certainly do not.

Anyways, so I tell her that we should have a few copies in the store, but they would be in our clearance bins. I need to take this brief moment to explain that on this particular day, everyone had called in sick. Seriously. The only other person to show up was the receiver and she had her own crap to do. When there is no one else in the store, typically you’re not allowed to leave the cash area. It’s a loss prevention thing.

This woman INSISTED that I search the clearance bins for her and find it. I quickly went through the bins and was unable to find it. I know what the cover looks like as well as the spine of the DVD, so it would be easy to spot if it was there. It wasn’t.

This woman then starts to tell me that I didn’t help her, this and that. I try to tell her that I can’t look because there are people at the cash and I’m the only person in the store. She gets all huffy and proceeds to tear through the clearance bins. She doesn’t find the film and makes sure to know that she is leaving without buying anything after she’s through.

Yeehaw!

Have you ever looked at someone and thought: "Hey! They look like a mouse!".
I know I have. I also know that once I see a person in their animal form, I usually never forget them.

I live in a semi-large town, but it's not uncommon to run into or see people you know on a random regular basis.

This one character always makes me think of a rhino. He is overweight and has strong facial features (and not in that hot movie star way). Due to the fact that he always wears cowboy boots and hat, he is imprisoned in my brain as "Cowboy Rhino". Creative, I know.

C.R (Cowboy Rhino) would usually just walk into the store and see what was on special- from across the room I could hear the beat from his headphones. Our specials are clearly marked, but he would ask if something else was on instead. Not what he was looking for, out to another watering hole he would go.

My first real interaction with him would have been last year.
He comes in and wants cigarettes. I serve him, smile on my face.
Sometimes fake customer service can go too far.
He begins by telling me that his feet hurt from walking all over town.
I got the whole guys life story without having to ask anything or even say a word. He hung around telling me about his move here, how the guy's that he treated as brothers treated him, about his drug addiction and so forth. Thankfully he was decent enough not to go into his sex life. Even with my paper shuffling he hung around for thirty minutes.

....as I said, that was the first time I had a conversation with C.R. There are a few more stories from this cashier!

Jimi Hendrix Should Be CHEAP!

On a almost daily basis, people come into the store and try to tell us that our shite is not alphabetized. They believe this because they can't find whatever they're looking for under THE or the artists first name etc. So when someone rants about the way our store is put together, it's not really something that we get all huffy about. Sometimes though, these people are memorable. This is one of those times.

This man came into the store. Just an ordinary person shopping. None of us working really paid any mind to him because he was just browsing and keeping to himself. He had been in the store for a little while, when he came over to me with a Jimi Hendrix CD in hand.

Him: Your music isn't alphabetized! How are you running this place?!

Me: The music IS alphabetized, but it's either by the bands name or the artists LAST name.

Him: Well Jimi Hendrix isn't where it's supposed to be!

Me: Where were you looking?

Him: J!

Me: Well, that's because he would be under H for Hendrix.

Him: It's not alphabetized then!

Me: Ok, anyways, can I help you find a specific CD?

Him: NO! I already looked at them and all of the ones I want aren't on sale! That's ridiculous! You have all these 2 for 20 deals and sales and you can't make Jimi Hendrix a part of that?!

Me: He IS a part of it... but only certain CDs.

Him: But not the ones I want! Figures!

So basically, the man went on to complain about how poor our customer service was because the CD he wanted wasn't the price he wanted to pay.

Where is Atavar?

Alright, so typing the name of what this lady was looking for makes it a little obvious where this story is going. But nonetheless, at the time, it was frustrating as heck to try and figure it out. This woman that I was helping was a really nice, so I'm just going to add that in there, since not all crazy customers are horrible to help.

It was Christmas time and it was crazy busy in the store. There are approximately 3 to 4 employees available to help like 30-40 people that in the store at a time. So it is an absolute clusterf*ck. It really helps if you know what you're looking for, so that we can help quickly.

So this woman was in the store and she came up to me and said "Where is that movie? You know at-a-vat-ir?" I was all like whooo-what now? Anyways, she just kept repeating herself over and over again. She hadn't seen the movie, so she didn't know anything about it to help give me a description. I was with her for a little while just trying to figure it out. I thought maybe she was talking about Atanajuat (The Fast Runner). I went over to the movie section and went to show her what I thought she meant.

I started looking through the A's and my eyes skimmed past Avatar and my mind clicked. "Are you looking for AVATAR?" I asked her.

Her eyes lit up "YEEEEEEEES! Gawd yes! That is exactly it! And here I've been going on and on about something that doesn't even exist! You poor girl! Thank you so much! You're a genius!"

People really do say stuff like that. When you help someone who is desperately looking for something at Christmas, they will tell you all kinds of sweet nothings to make you feel special. Which is nice considering all the other people who will just as quickly put you down.

World War II THE Movie

Yesterday, I posted a story about a gentlemen looking for Civil War the Musical. Now, that very same day that I spoke to that charming gentlemen, about 3-4 hours later, ANOTHER man came in. I would try to explain the conversation but it will just be better if I dialogue it for you.

Me: How are you today?

Him: Good, I'm looking for a war movie.

Me: Oh! Ok, documentaries or actual movies?

Him: THE war movies.

Me: Well we don't have a war section in our store, so if you know what you're looking for, I can tell you if we have it and where it would be.

Him: I'm looking for World War II movies.

Me: Ok, but I can't really look up keywords. I need a title to look it up.

Him: I told you the title. World War II THE movie. You know? It happened in like 1945 or something like that?

Me: Well ya, that's around when the war took place, but there would only be documentaries from then, no movies were made about the war while the war was going on.

Him: Oh. Uh. Well I am looking for World War II the movie. It exists. I KNOW it does.

Me: Sorry sir, nothing in our system.

I probably should've just shown him something like Band of Brothers, but oh well. Some people just don't know what they're looking for. I pride myself on having a pretty good encyclopedia of films, but some people just don't understand that some things just don't exist however badly they want it to. Oooooh retail.

War Musicals Please!

Well, it's been a DAMN long time since we posted anything. I am ever so sorry for that. My life has been one big pile of CRAZY. First of all, I left my retail job and I moved half way across the country. If you are interested in reading rants, I have some some of my adventures up on a little bit called City & Island. Anyways, I'm going to try and post a few stories for you to enjoy!

So I had been at cash pretty well all day. It was a busy day and our store had just had a flood. Anyways, so I was working on something like making price stickers and this man walked up to me. He seemed normal enough, so I smiled and asked him if I could help him.

The conversation went something like this:

Me: Hello! Can I help you find anything today?

Him: Yessum. I'm looking for Civil War.

Me: Ok? Civil War documentaries? Or like a war drama movie?

Him: NO. Civil War the MUSICAL. Do you have it or not?

Me: Well, I don't have a listing anywhere in my computer system, so unfortunately that's going to be a no.

Him: Well I BOUGHT it at your store in Miami before!

Me: Well, we don't have any stores in the US anymore. We've been out of the states for quite some time and now we're only in Canada and the UK.

Him: Are you calling me a liar?!

Me: No, but I'm just telling you that you couldn't have got it from us.

Him: Well I will find another store that carries it.

Me: Alright sir. I have a nice day!

Anyways, so as a sidenote to this whole thing. Civil War the Musical DOES exist, but not on DVD... It is a play and not a movie.

Do I speak English?

I thought I would hop on over here and post and update the site a little for our dear Cookie.

Some basic background about me. I have worked retail for about 7 years now - in a few fields. My main field is as a service station assistant manager/cashier, and also at the same time as a sales associate in clothing and kitchenware.

In the glamourous world of "retail", almost everything is computerized. I happen to work at a gas station where to function, everything but the staff is computers. Our point of sale system (or debit network) likes to randomly crash and start up again. There are days when I can't get outside to put signs up on the pumps. Instead, I hop on the intercom: hi there pump number ____. It's cash or credit inside only. The debit system is down."

There are people who bring inside their debit cards. "I'm sorry. The network is down".
"oh, I thought that was for the outside only".

"no. It's the same network thats down".

The one thing I learned today was our ATM is also hooked up to the same system- doesn't seem too smart.

Of course it was up and down today, as it has been all week.

Working alone, I inform the customers via intercom about the change in how the have to pay. All is well and good.

You knew this was coming...

Until a middle aged gentleman came in to use his PayPass. He swiped his card at the machine. The computer printed out a MasterCard slip for him to sign.

"I used this so I wouldn't have to sign"

"I'm sorry- the network is down and the paypass is attached to the network".

*mumblemumble"it's supposed to be convenient"mumblemumble*

As he walks towards the door, all cheery, "Have a nice day".

Relax. It's only retail.

Do Not Fret!

Hey everyone!

Thanks for following the blog and sincerest apologies for not posting lately. As you can imagine, it's the Christmas season and us retailers are currently trying to keep the gray hair at bay... although we should be so lucky as to have any hair left from wanting to rip it out!

We are not closed and TONS of stories will be following after the Christmas rush is done with! In T Minus ONE WEEK! AHHHH! I will leave you with quite possibly a story that takes the place of my favourite stupid question EVER. It happened today:

Basically, I was the only floor person in my store, so approximately the entire population of the city was trying to flag me down for help. One woman walked up to me with the new Keith Richards book in hand and turned the book over to ask me the price. The woman pointed to the barcode... like the zillion number barcode and asked me if that was the price...

I wish I was lying, but this woman VERY seriously wanted to know if the barcode was really the price of the book... and quite honestly... if books cost as much as she thought it did, I ponder a couple of things:

1) how this woman has managed to survive in the world up until now
2) how this woman has any money at all cause if she asks stupid questions like that frequently, I can't even imagine how many times she's been ripped off...
3) how much does she think houses and cars cost nowadays?!

Anyways everyone.... Merry Christmas and check back with us really soon for more stories after this shenanigans called Christmas is overwith!

I Can Spells Wordz

Today I thought I would share some employee screw-ups that I've seen over the past little while, focusing on header cards. For anyone who doesn't know what a header card is, it's basically the card that is behind a CD or DVD that has the title of the artist or movie on it.

Most of the times when we're cleaning the sections out and we discover these, we all just have a good laugh over them, and if they're really good, we put them on our "wall of shame". You can see a few of them in the provided photo, but here are some that really made me chuckle (some of which are, again, included in the photo!)

-Ass Assassination of Jesse James
-Hairy Potter
-Darkwood Duck
-Transforners
-Sabrina Who? (for Samantha Who?)
-Suffer Dude (Surfer Dude)
-National Geographics
-Barestain Bears (Berenstain Bears)
-Sharkboy and Waterboy (Sharkboy and Lavagirl)
-Toothy Fairy
-Blind Melo
-Schwayze (I don't even know what this header card was for...)
-Beatie Boys
-Kindz in the Hall
-Huge Cornwell

If you've seen any awesome examples of employee shenanigans... send them to us for our little mini special editions like this on header cards!

Where's the Bathroom?

This story is a short one, but I hope you'll enjoy it.

I was helping this little old lady find some CDs that she was looking for. She was super nice and friendly and I really enjoy helping people when they are like that. I was with her for a while and found most of the CDs she was looking for and even recommended her some other CDs that she just bought because she liked me and thought I had good taste.

Anyways, so I bring her over to the cash and start ringing her through. I get the transaction completed and she asks me if there is a bathroom nearby. I tell her how to get to the bathroom and where it is and she smiles really sweetly at me and says: "Oh goodie! I really thought I was gonna have to crap in my pants! Have a niiice day!"

And that was that.

I Did Not Get THESE To Be Called Sir...

I used to work in downtown Toronto, as you may of read in past posts. I have met some really interesting people in that experience and this story is about one of those very interesting people I have encountered.

One day, I was scheduled to work in the basement of the store I work at, which is pretty much all of the movies for the store. The basement draws in a lot of the crazies, which is generally fine as they just like to shop for the most part and leave you be. On this particular day, I guess I just had an extra friendly face on, and I was chit chatting with this dude about this and that. We were talking for a while and I was kind of getting antsy and such, but kept listening.

Another customer comes down the stairs and walks over to us and is apparently a friend of the person I am chatting with. The person that comes over is a tranny with big straight blonde hair, gigantic Pam Anderson tits, big botoxed lips and very little clothing on. The shirt was barely covering nipple. And I will just refer to her/him as she hence forth for now.

So she came over and said hi to her friend and then proceeded to tell me about her experience in the main floor. We had just hired this British guy and he was working with a few other people. Apparently, she was walking around the store upstairs and looking for stuff, when the British guy walked over to her and said "Can I help you find anything, sir?"

Now, normally it's good training if you know better than to gentrify anyone when addressing someone in retail, but apparently, he did not know better.

The tranny was really offended by this and said no and continued shopping. I guess after a little while, the British guy returned and offered assistance again, following it up, once more with "sir". If anyone knows any trannies or has met any, you know that this is a really big no-no. So she came downstairs, as I mentioned and proceeded to tell me this:

Her: "That British guy you have working on the main floor is a HOMOPHOBE!"

Me: "Really? Well he's new and I haven't worked with him much, but he doesn't seem like that?"

Her: "Do you KNOW what he said to me?! He called me SIR!"

She proceeded to tell me about the incident above that I have already mentioned, so once I was filled in on that, she carried on:

Her: "Do you think that I dress like THIS and I got THESE (at this point, she sticks out her chest to a point where she might as well of been flashing me, since her boobs are like all up in maa space...) to be called SIR!? No, I didn't, and it's really rude and disrespectful of someone to treat me like that. I mean, you work DOWNTOWN! You have to expect people like ME pretty often here!"

She was not wrong at all. We had strippers, prostitutes, homeless people, trannies, alcoholics... all sorts show up at the store to shop, but we all knew how to deal with it and we had an awesome security team that kept us safe. You need to definitely be open minded to work at the store and homophobia definitely doesn't fly since like half the staff are gay and such too. So if you're a homophobe, you won't last very long.

She carried on for a bit more and thanked me for listening and being so open-minded and pleasant etc. They chatted with me casually for a little bit and such. Then they had to leave and they said their goodbyes and such and thanked me again. As they were leaving, the tranny just quickly popped in this little treasure for me to remember:

"I know what will make the British boy not so homophobic anymore... I'll just march right up there and give him a blow job and that will change his mind REEEEEAL quick!"

Go Find Yourself a Tic Tac...

Alright, so a couple of weeks ago, I had the pleasure of dealing with this Spanish couple that came into my store. The other guy that I work with had dealt with them before and asked me to help them out. Basically, the couple had bought a copy of Predators and it wasn't working in their FIIIVE DVD players. The guy who had dealt with them before had already exchanged the DVD for them and apparently the DVD still wasn't working. It was supposedly skipping at certain parts of the movie.

We have a DVD player in the store, so the simple solution was to just check the DVDs to see if they were actually defective. The man had claimed that the movie skipped pretty much right from the get-go and just froze at other times.

I just want to take this brief moment to say that the man had had Taco Bell for lunch and had the WORST onion breath I have ever smelt. I wanted to vomit a little. And the wife had big gaudy jewelry on and silver front teeth.

Anyways, so we pop the DVD in our player and start watching it. It works perfectly fine. No skipping. We watch like 15 minutes of it just to make sure it doesn't start to skip. After, the man gets all defensive about the situation and says:

"So just because it doesn't work in MY DVD player makes the movie NOT defective? Are you trying to say that because it doesn't play in my FIVE DVD players, that it's my DVD players that are defective?! I have a 2009 Escalade, are you telling me that my Escalade is DEFECTIVE?!"

I followed up by saying to him that I could do another return, but if it was in fact their DVD player that was defective, the new disc I gave them still wouldn't work. I popped in the first DVD that they had returned and it wasn't defective either, so I tried to explain this to them. I asked him if he had a Blu-ray player, because I thought maybe the Blu-ray would not give them as much trouble. He told me that he did have a Blu-ray player, and he would trade up for the Blu-ray if the disc continued to not work.

Long story short, I told them to try to the DVD in a normal DVD player and not a DVD player in their Escalade... They were not really impressed with that suggestion and the woman said, "So you made us drive ALLLLLLL the way from Blah blah and blah blah all the way in BLAH?!"

The place in question... changed to BLAH, was down the street from me and literally like five minutes away from the mall, so it really wasn't very far for them to come and all I could think about in my head was maybe if they didn't drive an escalade that probably cost an arm and a leg to get gas for, it wouldn't have been such a big issue, and all I REEEEALLY wanted to say to them was, 'You should look into getting a Prius'.
